Flight attendant arrested after attacking other crew members during a flight

Documents filed in federal court in North Carolina say an American Airlines flight attendant who described herself as "crazy" and a "train wreck" attacked fellow crew members and U.S. marshals during a flight from Charlotte to Frankfurt, Germany, last week.

The complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Charlotte says Joanne Snow is charged with interference with flight crews and attendants, and with assaulting, resisting or impeding an officer or employee of the United States.

In an affidavit, federal air marshal Joseph Fialka says Snow's fellow flight attendants told him she was acting erratically. He said they had requested that she not work the flight, but American Airlines management didn't remove her.

Fialka says Snow slapped a flight attendant, grabbed another air marshal's collar and struck him in the chest.

Illegal immigrants sue the state of Oregon over denying them driver's licenses

A group of illegal immigrants is suing the state of Oregon to overturn a voter-approved initiative that denied them driver’s licenses.
The lawsuit, brought by five illegal immigrants, comes after Oregonians passed Measure 88 last year with a strong two-thirds majority. Thirty-five of Oregon’s 36 counties voted against licenses for illegal immigrants as did every congressional district in the state, most of which are represented by Democrats.

But the lawsuit alleges Measure 88 is unconstitutional because it "arbitrarily" denies driving privileges based on membership in a "disfavored minority group." It alleges Oregon voters were motivated by "animus toward persons from Mexico and Central America."
Gustavo Recarde, who has worked construction and odd jobs in Portland and several states since sneaking into the United States in 1988, said a driver's license would help him feel more comfortable here and open doors.

"If an illegal [can] get a driver's license, it would be better because there's more opportunities to find a job as a driver," said Recarde, who is not part of the lawsuit. He said he believes race played a role in the vote.
But Cynthia Kendoll, president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform, said it's not the responsibility of Oregonians to make illegal immigrants comfortable or able to drive to jobs they don't legally have.

"They came here by choice, they weren't brought here against their will, and with those choices come hardships," she said.Measure 88 was a public vote that prevents giving "driver's cards" to those who cannot prove they are in the U.S. legally.
The campaign to deny licenses won big despite being outspent 10-to-one.

"People were not swayed by their arguments that they deserve to have a driver's card so they could more easily get to their jobs," Kendoll said. "They're not supposed to be working here."Kendoll said Oregonians were motivated by national security and drug-smuggling by Mexican cartels, not race. Those without papers have not gone through immigration checks, she said, and licenses make it easier to transport narcotics up and down the West Coast.

Norman Williams, associate dean for academic affairs at the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, said:

"The U.S. Supreme Court has been clear that neither legislators nor voters may target a minority group because of their race or ethnicity," he said. The plaintiffs -- five illegal immigrants identified only by their initials -- don't have to prove every Oregon voter was racially motivated, he said.

"They do have to establish there were enough voters who voted 'no' who were prompted to do so because of racial concerns, that could have tipped the balance," he said.Still, Williams said they face an uphill battle.

"Federal judges are very hesitant to strike down state statutes on constitutional grounds," he said.

EFCC detains Shuaibu Salisu, others over $2bn arms deal

About 20 top officials of the previous administration, who were alleged to have played active roles in the disappearance of $2 billion meant for the procurement of arms and ammunition for the country’s armed forces were taken into custody by the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission, EFCC, for questioning.

Some of the officials taken into custody are the former Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda and a former Director of Finance in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Shuaibu Salisu.
The former minister, who worked under Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was still being questioned by operatives of the EFCC in Abuja as at last night.

Shuaibu Salisu was said to have been arrested and detained for a while over various payments that he allegedly made.

A source in the EFCC confirmed that the sons of many top-ranking PDP officials were also found to have received various sums of money under the guise of supplying weapons for the armed forces but did not deliver.

Horror! 21Year-old Man Stabs Landlord To Death In Lagos (Photo)

Some hoodlums started a street fight on Olorogun Street, Odo Eran, in the Itire area of Lagos State on Tuesday, during which a 21-year-old stabbed a landlord, identified as Alawu Lateef, to death.
Lateef, who was a father of three, had intervened in the fight, and asked the hoodlums to leave the area, when one of them, identified as Lati Elepo, stabbed the landlord.

It was gathered that the father of three slumped, while residents arrested Elepo before he could escape with the other hoodlums. The matter was said to have been reported at the Itire Police Division.
The hoodlums, numbering six boys, had come from Osindero Street to meet one Balogun, who they claimed owed them about N30,000.
It was learnt that when the hoodlums did not meet Balogun at home, they started to make trouble on the street.
The landlord, Lateef, who worked as a panel beater, was said to have asked Elepo to leave the area with his gang members. The hoodlum, however, stabbed him in the chest.
Friends and family members rushed the landlord to a private hospital in the area, from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, where he was confirmed dead.
His corpse was afterwards brought to the Itire division.
One of his neighbours, who identified himself simply as Rashidi, said Lateef did not have any business with the miscreants, but only tried to pacify them when Elepo stabbed him on the chest.
Rashidi added that Elepo and two other suspects were arrested by the police.
He said,

“It was at about 11am when these boys from Osindero stormed our street. They are teenagers. They are not cultists. They said Balogun owed them N30,000 which they must collect from him.

“Lateef did not want such commotion on the street. So, he came out to caution them to take things calmly. The one who stabbed him was drunk.
“While Lateef spoke with them, the suspect went to a shop of an artisan who sharpens knives and other metals, grabbed about three knives and stabbed Lateef on the chest. Resident arrested him and dragged him to the police station while other hoodlums ran away.”

See Serial Killer Who Murdered, Raped, And Maimed His Way Across 6 Countries (Photo)

Dariusz Pawel Kotwica has become Europe’s first serial killer who raped and murdered his way across 6 countries. The Shaven-headed 29-year-old has confessed to the frenzied stabbing of an elderly woman and her husband in Austria, as well as killing a pensioner in Sweden a month earlier.

Kotwica daubed bizarre phrases on the Austrian woman’s naked body after raping her and police say he has told of his ‘joy’ at torturing, claiming he was urged to kill by inner voices.
Gerhard, 75 (right), and Erna Hintermeier, 74 left)

The details of Kotwica’s killing spree emerged for the first time in a report commissioned by the Home Office on the benefits of police across the EU sharing DNA and fingerprint records.

It says he was sought by forces across Europe after the double murder of a married couple in Vienna on May 21 this year. The bodies of Gerhard Hintermeier, 75, and his wife Erna, 74, were discovered at their home by relatives.

Kotwica daubed a strange message on the body of Austrian murder victim Gerhard Hintermeier, 75He did the same with Erna Hintermeier, 74.They had been bludgeoned and stabbed several times while written in brown paint on the woman’s naked body was either the Latin phrase ‘tantum ergo’ meaning ‘only then’, or the chemical element ‘tantalum’.

Police identified Kotwica by forensic evidence left at the crime scene that was shared across Europe under the Prum data-sharing scheme. Kotwica was caught by German police on June 8 and extradited to Austria. Police said he not only ‘made immediately a comprehensive confession’ to the murder of the elderly couple and admitted he ‘raped the dying old lady’ but also revealed he had committed another murder just weeks earlier in Sweden. Bo Georg Ehrlander, 79, was dead on the kitchen floor of his home near Gothenburg on April 23. He had been repeatedly stabbed.

According to Austrian police, Kotwica also admitted an ‘attempted homicide after a shoplifting’ in Salzburg in 2012, while records show he had committed grievous bodily harm in the Netherlands in 2011 and burgled a shop in Germany. There have also been reports of possible murders in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

How I Survived My Mother’s Wickedness – Popular Gospel Singer Alex Reveals

AFRICA 1
His story is laced with sadness and joy. As he recounts it, one is left speechless. Though he has overcome the trauma with the passage of time, yet he has not totally erased the bad memories from his mind.

As a child of circumstance, top gospel musician, Alex Apoko, will forever be haunted by the memories of his ugly past. Unlike many young people today who would want to look back at their childhood and will be full of nostalgia, wishing to return to those days of innocence and pampering, Alex does not feel the same way.

The reason is not far-fetched; his childhood was that of nightmares, grief and despair…

In a recent encounter with Vanguard, in Nairobi, Kenya, the talented gospel singer recounted how he never enjoyed the love and care usually accorded most newborn babies by their parents.

According to Ringtone, as he is fondly called by his fans back in Kenya, as a newborn baby, his mother dumped him at the doorstep of a bar along one of the popular streets in Nairobi called Tom Mboya Street, which was frequently visited by his father. Unfortunately, his father did not visit the place that fateful night. But his uncle who did, recognized the baby’s wrappings and took him to his paternal grandmother who took him in and brought him up like one of her own.

Today, 26-year-old Ringtone, is not only one of the richest singers in Kenya,he is equally, one of the most-sought-after gospel artistes that dine and wine with the high and the mighty in that country.

He’s currently living a flashy lifestyle that has continued to startle those who are familiar with his story. But it has not been an easy journey for Ringtone.

“I was thrown into the street by my own mother. I was raised by my grandmother who turned her place into a small brewery so that I could get something to eat. When I was five years my dad passed away before I could meet him. But my grandmother’s passing away two years later marked the beginning of the darkest period of my life. My uncles took me in and for the first time I slept in the cold and went through a lot of hardships. Eventually, I ran away and the street was my home, ” he began.

Narrating further, Ringtone said,”One of my aunts asked me to live with her, promising she would treat me the way my grandmother had. She promised me tea and bread, food which she knew I loved and couldn’t find on the street. From one relative to another. It was misery. But God has helped me. I was taken to school by a church but now, God has given me a name. I am known across East Africa today.”

One of the Nigerians deported from the UK speaks "Half of the people on the flight have family here"

Shortly before they were bundled into the plane yesterday, one of the Nigerians deported from the UK spoke to Detained Voices, a site which shares stories, experiences and demands made by people held in immigration detention centres in the UK or those who have family members or partners in detention.

Basically, the charter flight is for today and they’re trying to get us on the flight. But here lies the problem. We all know very well, according to the rules anyway, if they want to take us they have to get travel documents for all of us. But then they have already issued travel certificates for everybody without anybody actually signing for it. How does that work? Obviously there have been allegations this week against the home office and against the Nigerian embassy about, you know bribary, to make sure she issues travel documents for people without their knowledge, you understand what I mean. According to the information we are getting, each person gets £3000. Basically, all of us have been sold to the British Government to do whatever they wants to do to us. We’ve been very calm. We’ve asked them can you get the home office to explain how they’ve got travel documents for us when we didn’t sign for it. Obviously that’s fraud because I haven’t signed for anything. How are we supposed to follow the rules and regulation when those rules and regulations of the Home Office clearly doesn’t apply to them. They actually break the law on a regular basis. They bribe people on a regular basis. Half of the people on the flight today have family here. They shouldn’t be going to Nigeria in the first place. I left Nigeria 17 years ago, right, I was 9 years old when I left Nigeria. I had only really lived in Nigeria for 6 years. And you are telling me it’s okay you can go back there. To where? My dad passed away last month. Who am I going back to? Who am I going back to? My sisters here, my brothers here. My niece has very big health problems. She’s got heart issues. They’re in London. She needs help on a regular basis. My sister cannot handle it. We are just sat in the room basically. We are waiting for the officers to forcefully remove us. We are just in the room waiting. Because at the end of the day, they haven’t answered our questions.

Pastor Arrested By Nigerian Army For Allegedly Faking Miracles And Healing In Port Harcourt

Officers of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have arrested a pastor and two others for allegedly faking miracles and healing to deceive church members and the public. This is also as the Army has nabbed two persons, who posed as majors in the Nigerian Army.

Parading the suspects yesterday, the Army Public Relations Officer of the 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, Captain Eli Lazarus, said the pastor and his accomplices conned several members.

Lazarus stated: “We got a tip-off from a member of the church, who complained of immoral and fraudulent activities going on in the church.
“The self-acclaimed pastor and his collaborators (names withheld) were subsequently arrested and they confessed to duping unsuspecting members of the public of various sums of money. “The suspects also confessed of stage-managing miracles and healing to attract members to their church located along Aluu community close to Port Harcourt,” he said.

He said the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and possible arraignment in court.

The 27-year-old pastor and founder of the church (name withheld), confessed to have paid his collaborators undisclosed amount of money to give false testimonies. The suspect said his church, Revelation Power Ministry, had over 100 worshippers.

We Drank Garri While On National Duty – Former Super Falcons Star, Vera Okolo Reveals

Former super falcons star, Vera Okolo has opened up on what she went true when she was playing for Nigeria…She says while on duty at the African Women’s Championship in 2004 and 2007, the team wasn’t paid its bonuses, they had to make do with very few kits and it got so bad Nigerians in South Africa donated food to the team. She said the then governor of Rivers state, Peter Odili stepped in to pay the bill for their meals.

“I cannot imagine a team representing a country as popular and blessed as Nigeria, to go for a tournament like that and be treated shabbily. If I open up on the terrible things that happened in South Africa, you will pity the players and heap praises on us,” Okolo told the Vanguard.

“We played that tournament with two pairs of white jerseys and one pair of green jerseys. Those were what we played with for over two weeks. In fact, I played two matches with groin injury, all in the name of wanting to win for Nigeria.”

The former player who is now attending the Nigeria Institute of Sports also detailed how the ladies were owed their due pay.
“Normally, when you go for such tournaments, as long as you win, you get your match bonus after a game. But it was a different ball game in South Africa. After winning our first match, we got to the hotel, expecting our bonus. It started from the kits. After giving us three jerseys, we asked why, they said they were bringing kits from Nigeria, that we should make do with what we have. We said, no problem as we were focused on retaining the cup.

“It was strange but we told them that it was not really the jersey that plays the game but the players. On match days we avoided exchanging jerseys. It became a crime to do so. We told them that we were not going back to Nigeria without the cup. And when the bonuses were not being paid after wining our matches, they became deeply worried and we rose to tell them not to allow that to weigh them down.”
“Even in Algiers 2007, it happened. Before most of our matches, we drank garri. But we felt good even with it. After the tournament in South Africa, Kikelomo Ajayi who was our captain was mandated by us to go and meet the officials to pay us the bonuses but we were shocked when she returned to tell us that they said we should go back to Nigeria to collect the money.

“That was when we said no, that if we got to Nigeria, they would not pay. Experiences have shown that our officials don’t stand by their words, so we refused to go back home until the money was paid.
“Even when the embassy officials said that we were on our own and they would only provide for our breakfast, we were not moved. It was at that time that Nigerians in South Africa knew of our plight and said that as long as they were alive that we would not lack anything good in South Africa.

“They were bringing us food; in fact, we had so much that we were even giving out to visitors and friends. We had more than we had during the tournament. They said we should have told them all this while but we were not supposed to wash our dirty linens outside. But it just got to that extent that we could not hide it any more.
“There was a time that the former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili had to intervene. He called (Peterside) Idah, when he heard of our travails, to feed the players and send the bill to him.
“It was like that until the money was now given to us and immediately, they said we should pack to go to Nigeria.
“Then President, Olusegun Obasanjo gave us N1m each, after hearing what happened.”
