Karim Benzema has returned to training after being formally charged in connection with an alleged sex tape blackmail plot against former team-mate Mathieu Valbuena. The Real Madrid striker was arrested by judicial police in Versailles, west of Paris, on Wednesday in connection with the case, although his lawyers insist he played 'no part' in the attempt to extort money from his fellow France international.
Both players were dropped from the national team ahead of international friendlies against Germany and England. France coach Didier Deschamps refused to comment on the legal case but said Benzema would have missed the games regardless because of injury.
