GOOD NEWS: THIS PLAYER LOOKS SET TO BE AT CHELSEA NEXT SEASON AS BLUES CONFIRM AGREEMENT

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern had been expecting this deal to come…

As confirmed on Chelsea’s official website, third-choice goalkeeper Eduardo has signed a new contract with the Blues, having joined the club last summer on a one-year deal.

It would not be a surprise for you not to recognise his name, given that he is yet to play a single minute for the Blues this season. He has appeared on the bench sparingly, typically in cup competition, but given the vast quality ahead of him in the Chelsea first team, he has yet to be given a chance on the pitch.

Now 34-years-old, the Portuguese goalkeeper is reaching the twilight of his career, and whilst his game time may have reduced, his role within the squad has remained vitally important. A third-choice shot-stopper is always a crucial component, whilst his experience will also have likely played a key role behind-the-scenes for the Blues.

Now a 3-time league winner, the goalkeeper won his first Premier League with the Blues this season – though he is unlikely to receive a medal given his lack of involvement.

A new deal, then, makes a lot of sense – but with Thibaut Courtois ahead of him, the Portuguese should not be expecting game time anytime soon.
